Privacy Policy

CinePlanner is a shot-planning app for macOS, iPadOS and iOS, made by Yannick Giraud. This policy explains what data the app handles and how. In short: your projects are yours, they live in your own iCloud account, and they are never sold or shared.

What we collect

CinePlanner does not collect personal information on our own servers, and it has no advertising or third-party tracking. The content you create in the app — projects, scripts, shot lists, blocking maps, schedules, reference photos and videos — stays on your device and, if you enable iCloud, in your own iCloud account.

iCloud sync

If you are signed in to iCloud and have iCloud enabled for CinePlanner, your projects sync across your Apple devices through Apple's iCloud / CloudKit service. This data is stored in your private iCloud container and is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. We cannot read the contents of your private iCloud data.

Maps & location

When you add a satellite map to a scene, search for a place, or set a location for the sun-direction overlay, CinePlanner uses Apple's Maps service to fetch map imagery and to look up addresses and coordinates. The place or address you enter is sent to Apple to answer that request; it is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. CinePlanner does not track your device's location, and does not send this information to us or to anyone else.

Photos & files

When you add reference images, videos, floor plans or import a script, CinePlanner reads only the files you choose. Camera metadata (EXIF) is read from images you attach in order to fill in camera, format and lens details. These files are stored inside your project and never uploaded to us.

CineStager import

If you use the companion app CineStager, CinePlanner can read AR setups and top-down maps from a shared iCloud folder, read-only. This exchange happens entirely within your own iCloud account.

Publishing to the web

CinePlanner can publish a shot list as a shareable web page. This is optional and only happens when you choose to publish. When you do, CinePlanner uploads the exported page — including any reference images and video it contains — to your own GitHub account, using a personal access token that you provide and that is stored securely in your device's Keychain. We run no server of our own and never receive a copy of what you publish.

Anything you publish this way is public. The page is hosted on GitHub Pages at a public address, so treat it as you would any public website — don't publish material you need to keep private. You can unpublish at any time from within the app, which removes the page and its repository from your GitHub account. Your use of GitHub is governed by GitHub's Privacy Statement.

Analytics & diagnostics

If you choose to share diagnostics with Apple, crash and performance data may be provided to us by Apple in aggregated, non-identifying form through App Store Connect. You can turn this off in your device's privacy settings.

Data retention & deletion

Because your data lives on your device and in your iCloud account, you are in control of it. Deleting a project in the app, or removing the app and its iCloud data, permanently removes that content. We hold no separate copy.

Children

CinePlanner is a professional tool for filmmakers and is not directed at children under 13.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "last updated" date.
